Because of you

     Isabella dashed down the halls as fast as she could. "I can't believe what i just heard!" the raven haired teen wiped a tear from her eye while making a left turn.
    "Isabella come back!" the girl didn't dare look back for she already recognized the voice. In a panic, the teen took a right and flew through a pair of grey doors. She slumped against a wall and slid to the floor.
    "Where did she go?" Isabella listened to the muffled voices as they ran by her hiding place.
     "I don't know ,but she seemed to be in quiet a fuss when I saw her run by."
     "ugh, but why? One moment were talking the next minute she sprinting out of class!"
     "Well lets split up and search for her."
     The footsteps faded and Isabella cracked the door to see if they were gone. When she was sure of it, the teen closed it once more and walked across the room to the big curtains. "Hopefully they don't think of looking in the Auditorium." Isabella stepped from behind the curtains and stared at the multiple rows of empty chairs. The girl whimpered and let a tear slide down her cheek as she collapsed onto the floor of the stage.
      "Why did you do this to me!" she yelled to the sky, "You knew how much i loved him! But you just couldn't let me have him could you? I've loved him since i was 6! 6! this girl just met him today and they're already going for a stroll in the park." Isabella sobbed heavily. She wiped her face again and rose to her feet. The teen smoothed her jet black hair and took a deep breath. She did the only thing she knew to do when she was upset. Sing.
      I will not make the same mistakes that you did.
Isabella started walking along the stage.
      I will not let myself cause my heart so much misery
      I will not break the way you did
      You fell so hard
      I learned the hard way, to never let it get that far
The teen started swaying and spinning as though she was dancing with an invisible partner. The door to the back stage opened slowly and quietly. Phineas walked in and drew back a small portion of the curtain knowing exactly who that voice belonged to.

      I learned to play on the safe side
      So I don't get hurt

      I find it hard to trust
      Not only me, but everyone around me

As Isabella sang the tears in her eyes glistened in the stage lights.      
      I am afraid
      I lose my way
      And it's not too long before you point it out
      I cannot cry
      Because I know that's weakness in your eyes
      I'm forced to fake a smile, a laugh
      Every day of my life
      My heart can't possibly break
      When it wasn't even whole to start with
Phineas felt his heart drop as she sang. 'Why is she crying?'
      Because of you
      I never stray too far from the sidewalk

      Not only me, but everyone around me

      I am afraid
The girls raven hair fluttered around her as she twirled.
     I watched you die
      I heard you cry
      Every night in your sleep
Phineas felt himself starting to walk towards her.
      I was so young
      You should have known better than to lean on me
      You never thought of anyone else
      You just saw your pain
      And now I cry
      In the middle of the night
      Over the same damn thing
Isabella stopped her dancing and sat on the stage floor.
      Because of you

      I learned to play on the safe side so I don't get hurt
She wiped more tears as they ran down her cheeks. As Phineas watched his best friend cry he felt tears forming. Before they spilled over, the boy blinked them away.

      I tried my hardest just to forget everything

      I don't know how to let anyone else in

Isabella looked upwards as she sang her last verse.  
    I'm ashamed of my life because it's empty
      Because of you
      I am afraid

      Phineas set a hand on his friends shoulder, catching Isabella by surprise, "Phineas! When did you? How did you," the girl felt her cheeks getting red. 'How long had he been there? More importantly, how much did he hear?
      The red head gave Isabella a wry smile. The teens stared at each other for awhile before quickly turning away. Isabella stood up and kept her head down. She couldn't even face him; the moment was far too awkward already.
      "Um so Izzie," Phineas said breaking the silence, "that song you sang, what were you talking about?" Isabella kept quiet, for she knew if she told her best friend the truth their friendship would be terminated completely.
     "Isabella," the red head lowered his head trying to look at his friend's hair covered face. Phineas tucked some of Isabella's jet black hair behind her ear. The girl looked up with her blue eyes. She looked a mess her hair was sticking out everywhere and her mascara had started to run. "Whoa you have a little something….er never mind.
     Isabella wiped her face with the back of her sleeve, "I must look hideous right now."
    "You look fine Izzie," Phineas set his hand on Isabella's shoulder once again.
    Isabella laughed as she continued to wipe her mascara stained face, "you always were a bad liar."
    
   "Heh heh," Phineas rubbed the back of his neck nervously, "so are you ok?" Isabella looked him with wide eyes. How was she supposed to lie her way out of this one?
    "Of course I am I was just um…HORMONES! Yeah I'm a little over emotional right now. I read this story and then I started crying and yeah," the teen ran her hand through her messy hair. 'He totally knows I'm lying. Oh my god what am I gonna do! I can't let him find out this way!'
    Phineas raised an eyebrow and stared at his best friend. Isabella forced a smile, "Okay then…well then what was with the song?"
    'Think Isabella! Think! Why are you in an empty auditorium singing and crying?' "I heard the song on the radio and it's been in my head all day so I decided to sing it and the auditorium seemed to be the perfect place to do it, but then I started thinking about the story again and I just lost it." Isabella put her hands behind her back and laughed nervously.
     "Well do you want to head back to class? Everyone, including the teacher, was worried. You just ran out of there like a mad woman."
     "Yeah let's go." Isabella let out a sigh of relief. The two teens exited the auditorium and headed for their 3rd period classes. 'I'll tell him the truth someday,' thought Isabella,' just not today.'
